Lane rates

So when did this lane rate bullshit come into play? It does not make one bit of difference where you are in the country or out of country, these trucks need to make more than 1.50/mile to break even!

Is it just me or if I'm going to lose money I would rather stay home!

Exactly... tell me about it.. I'm so sick of seeing what's going on.. then there's the brokers that think $2.00 a mile is all we need and it's good enough.. it's sad and anybody that thinks some of the low balled rates are good then they seriously need to go to church and run to the altar for prayer..

I know that's right! We do well coming out of our own area and we do well with some brokers in other areas but some of these guys are off their rockers! I have called on many loads today tha I just can not bring myself to take! Something has to give in this business or I'm not sure how long we can keep this up!

There is a shortage of trucks and drivers , so hold out for better rates per mile.

Can you provide some context please?

What do you need for context? Brokers are bidding to their customers 1.50/loaded mile on their lanes. I'm sorry but it costs more to run a truck than 1.50/ loaded or even running mile! There is nothing ambiguous about the statement! Carriers with rolling stock need to make a living. If the companies with rolling stock can not make a living then the broker, with all of his infinite wisdom, bidding 1.50/loaded mile can not get his loads moved and he is out of business also.

That is the best way I can put it into context! It all comes down to the carriers and drivers getting the job done in a safe and timely manner that makes you brokers look good! With that said, why don't you put yourselve in our shoes and hold your ground for higher rates? I'm not talking about all brokers, there are some really good brokers but there are some really bad ones too!

I was asking for context on "when did this lane rate bullshit come into play" as well as "in or out of the country" - I apologize, I should have used quotes when asking. I'll just assume you are ducking in and out of Canada.

As far as putting ourselves in your shoes, I am happy to say we do own our own trucks and trailers, in addition to leasing equipment and doing customized dispatching services. Low rates hurt me the same as you and hurt my drivers more when there is an additional fee deducted. I don't make money unless the drivers do. Drivers don't stay unless they can earn a living. No drivers, no income... so why would I intentionally lower a rate? I'm not interested in working harder for LESS money.

I wasn't aware this was an issue for trucks going in and out of Canada as well as the US. Thank you for making me aware of that.
