What causes the most friction in your operation right now?

Hello, everyone. Curious what others are seeing. Is the biggest headache today dispatch communication, paperwork/PODs, fuel surcharge rules, billing errors, customer-specific requirements, or reporting? We’ve been hearing a lot of the same pain points and I’m interested in what’s actually causing the most drag for carriers right now.

I'm just gonna say YES because everything is a problem these days. Everything is against us and everyone has their hands in our pockets. Companies couldn't care less about holding you for hours or sometimes days and want to tell you how much they are willing to pay. That would probably be my #1 problem but they are all issues for sure.

In my experience, on a hopper the avg rate per running mike is less than 2. Round trip. Or bounce 200 plus miles with fuel over $4

Our current biggest issue is rate negotiations, and has been for the last couple of years in the down turn. Many of our past lanes have had their rates cut in half, for example we have one that we used to run at 82 a ton that now gets moved at 36 a ton. While that is not a reason for anger, since it is obvious I was unable to price myself that low, due to my inabiltiy to source freight to pair with it.

The biggest issue has been where do we bow out of the lanes. Managing losing lanes, lowering prices, equipment sitting, running below breakeven, and of course the stress that creates. I dont know the correct answer as we have bowed out of many lanes we had for years as the rates dropped to an unprofitable level. Some of those I wish we still had even at the lower rate once we find better freight to pair with it, but once they are gone they are hard to get back.

Sales fixed everything, and rates that make an operation run smoothly are a big factor in that.

Yes Rob, that is a reason for Anger. People take these loads into places that are absolute freight deserts without knowing it, and magically that's the new rate.

Fuel. INSURANCE, what I'd up nightmare. Good drivers. Parts. Nothing is easy or secure right now.
