TANK WASHOUTS $$$

So, any advise or help in terms of off setting washout costs. Seems like the established brand names, you can expect to be waiting hours before they touch you, and the cost at some of these places is almost as much as the load. Is there like a discount program or coupon out there that I'm missing :)

Sorry, no discount program, welcome to the downside of tank work. The only thing I can tell you is to call a tank wash and give them the product BEFORE you agree to haul a load to get an idea of the cost. If you have a heel all bets are off because the cost dramatically goes up by the gallon. I've easily spent over $1,000.00 for a wash on some products with no heel. Be prepared at times to drive a couple hundred miles one way to get to a tank wash, and spend a day or two waiting. With all the new brokers that thought they coud get rich booking tank loads over the last year by re-inventing the wheel in tank freight rates, they decided to do all in pricing. They had no idea about the tank wash part of the deal, and subsequently trashed the market with their new fangled pricing strategy. Good Luck. What were good tank rates 6 months ago, like every other segment of the industry, those days are gone.

Quala has to be the worst. In Toledo they charge me $550.00 for a caustic wash . At Quala in Barberton $475.00 At Express Tankwash never over $300.00 and a way better job

I don't know what type of tank you're pulling. I drag a pneumatic most days and washouts are ALWAYS charged back to the shipper or broker. I never get pushback. Because they expect it. When I give rates I always add plus washout. Unless I'm doing multiples back to back. One shipper requires washouts between loads. Even if the loads are back to back. I just add it to the invoice. If you've been eating washouts, you're crazy.

There is no discount program best thing is to get an account with some of these places. All tank washes should be charged back to the customer or billed in with the rate the usual is $250 to $300 depending on the product but on average and anything over send the invoice in to update the ratecon. to be honest i would wash at Express if you can and if you want to skip the line a lil sorry to say your going to have to tip a lil sum sum... lol just the way the game goes when your a little fish in a big ocean.

We charge $280.00 for chemical, more for food grade or kosher. Multi compartments are $350.00-$400.00 + any prep charges. With that said, we have direct customers that are “actual tank wash charges” due to the high cost of we washing the product. We get good pricing from Quala & Express anywhere East of I-35, but we’re washing 10-20 tanks a day with them. Independent tank wash places are about all gone, they’ve about all been bought by Quala. chi was da
