Due to age and bursitis in my shoulders, I am now considering getting an electric remote tarp. Does anyone have any advice on who makes the best remote tarp for a hopper bottom out here??? Thanks in advance.

It’s probably like the Ford VS Chevy argument, everyone will claim there’s is best, I personally don’t run one yet, but a bunch of guys I run with all went with Sioux City last year, Sioux City actually sent a installer all the way up here and did the install right in the parking lot, new tarp, motor and arms installed for around two grand from what I heard.

My belt trailer has an electric tarp from Sioux City Tarp. So far I've been really happy with it.

Check the hopper pages on Facebook. A Tempte dealer is running a special on them with installation. Sorry, don't remember who it was. I saw it on Midwest Hoppers, Southeast Hoppers, or hopper bottom mafia. I've had:

Thunder 7000 Power Tarp Series

on my last 2 hoppers and never had an issue with them. I wouldn't have a hopper without one, however I am a little lazy by nature!

In my experiance, the souix city tarp openers are absoulte garbage. They are good people, and will warrantly alot of stuff, but the fact that I went through 4 control boxes in a year before I just ripped it off my trailer.

We then went to Shurco and they have been pretty solid ever since. I personally DO NOT run power tarps on any of my commercial trailers anymore just because of the shit that can go wrong. But if you need one the new Shurcos are nice

How did they do the door end? I've got a swing door on my western and would love an electric tarp.

I found the sale, and it isn't the same tarp I have. The one on sale is the system Robert is referring to. Mine is the Thunder 7000 and I've never had any issues with either of the one I've had. I sold my 2016 Tempte to a neighbor and the yard is still running fine for him. Good luck!

I used a bungie cord on the back of my hopper with freight doors. It worked real well.

My door lifts up with hydrolic cylinders. I'm not sure how you would get an electric tarp to work with a swing door.

Depends on the trailer you have, Timpte has the Thunder 7000 tarp system. Wilson has there own, not sure of the name of it. I have the Thunder 7000 on my 2 year old Timpte, and so far no problems. Timpte is running a promotion for $3,025 kit+installation not including power cord.

You would probably have to get a tarp that opens back to front instead of side to side. Standard equipment on gravel trains.

I have a Shurco 4500 series hd on my hopper and love it! Be sure to get a system with a remote as that's the easiest way to reprogram the end stops if you need to do that.

2 thunderstorm tarps off 2018 Timpte

both junk. Week springs tarp just spins.
springs were powder coated and lost tension

went with surco Has a hose inside a hose plenty of tension. Thunderstorm tarp wore thru the bows. Went with the reinforced tarp from surco

I've had a Shurco for over 10 years- no problems yet. (Knock on wood.)

We have 16 hoppers and 3 dump trailers all with Shurco tarps. These all haul between 15 and 20 loads a week. We have had very little problems. Be careful when opening if there is snow or ice on them. You can roll them off the trailer. We have reminder training every fall not to use the remote when covered with snow or ice. We think the tarps last longer sense going with electric roll tarps.
