Well I see that the great TQL is posting loads with rates that are out of this world! 22/ton on 373 miles. That ladies and gentlemen is a whopping 1.47/mile on fertilizer during the season! I hope they get stuck with these loads!

If they had the best rates they're still not worth dealing with.

I watched the video and it was the right one. As a travel agent for a small fleet of trucks, I have had all of the things talked about done to our company! It is a shameful practice that needs to stop! I am really discouraged right now as I struggle to keep our trucks profitable and see big brokers come into our area to make a profit! I hope if these brokers do not get the loads hauled at their cheap assed rates that they get charged a fine on the loads they give back! Any carrier who sees these lowball rates and then hauls these loads when they raise the rates because they can not get them moved, is just as big of a scum bag as the broker who is lowballing! Let these idiots sit on their freight and lose the customer! Let's, as carriers, get our customers back!

I am sick of this crap!

Oh, they understand. They know they'll eventually find someone to move it. It's all about the waiting game. They haven't grown to be one the largest brokerages in the US by coincidence.

The thing about it is that when they get close to deadline for loads, the money is there! They are just trying to be thieves and take the bulk of the revenue for doing the least amount of work! Why not be honest, take a fair share every time and then you will get trucks with good rates and respect of their peers!

Exactly, Ed. Every single move I've made for TQL has paid my rate and accesorials. When I see that 513 number it's almost always going to pay my rate because I know they HAVE to get it move. They pushed the customer's deadline too close for comfort so they finally break down and pay a real rate. They keep all your previous moves in a datebase. They pull it up before they call or when you call in. If they've seen you've hauled cheap for them even so much as one time they'll lowball you forever. Once a carrier has that digital reputation of Discount Xpress they'll never shake it off.

The reality is that we live in a world, governed by the use of force, every country has a military, every cop carries a gun, for the sole purpose of forcing people to do what they want them to. Our forefathers understood that, nobody gave them anything, they fought for everything they had, and then they turned a mighty empire over to a bunch of spoiled brat children, who eagerly squandered it all away, thinking Santa would magically return at Christmas, and replace everything with something better, well it ain’t gonna happen, if folks want stuff to change, they are going to have to fight for it, just like granddaddy did.

My point is, the people you speak of will never do what is right for the sake of what is right, they will only do it if government forces them to.
Replied on Wed, May 06, 2020 at 07:50 AM CST

First they never offer what they will pay, "l have capacity to move your load, but I am not moving my unit for less than X." Easy to say, yes I have been forced to find other loads. But, I didn't back down on my original statement.

2nd, the negotiation process is up to the carrier!

3rd set your rates!!

I assume you mean to use the Feds to force brokers to take a set percentage or something? Like lobby Congress to pass bills/laws/regulations that work in our favor? I say, why not?! The megas do it via the ATA. Seems to work pretty good for them. Where do we get the millions of dollars to make that happen though? The only group I know of that even comes close is OOIDA which I am proudly a member of.

So this begs to question, where is OOIDA? We need a organization, or form a co-op, that can and will stand up to this so called big boys. I also believe that if the brokers are forced to post their rate, and the phone doesn't ring they will have to raise the rate.

Oh, believe me, I have NEVER booked a load with TQL! I don't have time to waste in my day with a company who prides themselves with screwing over the trucking world!

Second. I don't have time to sit and educate their representitives on how to bid loads, the weight of grain or any other question they may have!

I have gotten the call from TQL quality team and that was a short call too. We do not need to have parasites like this in the business! Our service speaks for itself!

We need a new organization with the intrests of the single truck O/O and small fleet companies in mind!! I have no problem with a broker making a living, but when they gouge the carrier, I have a problem! There are some REALLY good brokers out there! 90% of the good brokers were in the industry before the government stuck thier nose in the mix!

The co-op is a great idea when implemented on a small more localized basis. Jerry Ashley has been talking about this since for quite a while and I agree. OOIDA is a benefit and has the potential to lobby and they do tons of courtroom work but it's very broad. Their most recent endeavor was going after PA for the ridiculous turnpike tolls. I'm glad they're around but we can't rely on them nor the Feds to do our work for us. It's up to us and only us mainly because each geographical area and freight segment has it's own unique idiosyncrasies between them. It's certainly not a one-size-fits all transportation world out there.

As far as brokers posting their rates...I'm not sure how that helps when bottom feeders will run it for a negative revenue rate out of ignorance and/or desperation. I say "no", and hear "no" about 90 percent of my fielded phone calls. I get a rate that works or I don't move the truck loaded.

Another posted rate consideration is the carrier who operates on the "Law of Averages". If they get their rate going in then anything coming back is pure profit so cheap is still positive to them OR if they need $2/mile round trip and they get $3/mile going in then they only need $1/mile going back. This would bring them to $2/mile for all miles. Some of this comes down to being savvy and we know too many out there are severely lacking in that department.

I have been talking to just about every truck driver I have met on the road ever since I started driving over the road after I got out of the ARMY in Mar 1988 asking why or how is it that we are not all unionized . For example " The American Owner Operators Union" to name a few names that would sounds good.

In my humbled opinion is the only way we will all be listned to. I can guarantee you that if every one of all across the nation walk away from our trucks for one week we could get what we all wanted for so long in one sit at the table at the Big House.

You all be Safe !

One of our biggest concerns should be keeping an eye on ALL the ILLEGALS with no CDL/ DOT NUMBERS/ INSURANCE....AND ALL THE BROKERS THAT TAKE LOADS FROM OTHER BROKERS TO GIVE TO 10,000'S ILLEGALS THAT ARE DRIVING HERE IN THE USA. PLEASE FOWARD ALL INFO TO FMSCA ON THE CROOKED BROKERS TO BE INVESTIGATED...

TQL is the only broker that I refuse to work with. A few years back on a reefer load I hauled for them there was 2 extra pallets of produce on the trailer. The agent told me to get rid of them which I did since the reciever wouldnt take them. When i submitted the freight bill to them they refused to pay it and also billed me for the lost produce. The agent denied telling me to disgard the etra pallets. So long story short I will never work with them again.

They are absolutely notorious for this kind thing. Every thing with them needs to be in writing. They almost never pay detention or layover. They will tell you they will but never do. They literally must be trained to lie because they do so much of it. They also lie about load details all the time then play dumb. They will pull that load from you if they find someone cheaper and never pay tonu.
