If there is anthing bad about Bulkloads, this it.. This is how good rates get destroyed. Advertising for one, turns into everyone that can jumping in, then it's a race to the bottom. If I was Tim, I'd be pissed.. Thanks alot.

I believe every broker should have to advertise a rate. Most brokers on that advertise their rate sure does help prevent double brokering

Bulkloads is not a broker. They advertise to attract paying members..

I see your point, but is it really any different from all those guys running around in show trucks, creating illusions of wealth to all the Newbies that there is big money in trucking? I saw a news interview one time where they implied port drivers make 150k a year, conveniently failing to mention that is what owner operators are paid, not company drivers. Some day maybe a bunch of retired guys that got sh*t on will start going around to all the high schools and informing the students how this industry really works, Bahahaha.

Our trade has an annual turnover of 100% now. How stupid are we for sticking around. Thus industry gives merit to the saying there's a sucker born every minute.

I think it's completely different. Someone's interpretation of seeing a nice truck is not the same as broadcasting an actual number. There is no illusion when throwing a number out there. Besides, a nice truck doesn't necessarily create an illusion of wealth. Wealth means different things to different people. Wealth is a subjective term that only the person using it knows what it means to them. You seem to not think very highly of nice equipment, or retired people being in the industry. Is everyone in the hopper business required to own and operate equipment that you consider less than nice, or not have the benefit of completing a career before getting into the industry? Neither of those circumstances mean they will haul for any less than you would. When I see nice equipment, I don't consider if the person can afford it or not, it's none of my business. I'm happy for them. There are many circumstances that allow people to purchase nice equipment, everyone's situation is different. Think about how boring truck shows would be without nice trucks.😉

I'm sure Bulkloads had his permission to use his picture and story. I've had some similar results lately but know everything runs in cycles that don't last long. If you get a few good years out of something you're doing well. Diversity with a few different kinds of trailers has worked well for me. That being said I haven't found a single load posted that I was willing to haul but the contacts I've made here by posting availability have been invaluable.

Can you imagine how much time it would save us if Bulkloads would make it mandatory for the brokers to put a rate down? Just scroll thru and figure your per mile rate at a glance and move on if it’s not worth looking at. Instead we have to call up 5 different brokers for the same load in hopes that you can figure out the one that is the original broker. Man alive, I almost wonder if it’s not getting worse lately. Yesterday I called about a load. 4 different brokers, exact same load, and the rate varied anywhere from 119 a ton to 72 a ton. If Bulkloads would make it mandatory to post a rate, it would cut some of that crap out. As it is there just sucking in the suckers that don’t realize that’s happening and making it hard for everyone.

If I understood your original post you were upset how a possibly misleading Ad was ruining rates by drawing in a bunch of new people into a already flooded market, My point was that truck shows are used for the same purpose, to recruit drivers into a already flooded industry, it's no accident that all those recruiters are there, speaking of recruiters you may remember the pilot program for 18 year olds, well the ATA also had this grand idea of recruiting drivers right out of high school (by promising fortune and glory) wich made me think how funny it would be if some retired guys showed up and pissed all over their parade by telling the kids the truth about the fortune and glory part, I guess you didn't pick up on that for some reason. I have nothing against nice looking equipment or retired people.

I totally agree.. Maybe they do't post the rates because they would be embarrassed to put it in print for everyone to see. Also, it would crush the 15 brokers trying to broker the same load.

On another note, thanks Dave for the clarification, and I agree with you. However, I still think you have a disdain for people "running around in show trucks" :)

I didn't know hauling bulk freight was a secret?? Maybe this advertisement will encourage more high end shippers to this board 😄

In all seriousness though, good for the guy who made some money with his business, it shows it can be done in the bulk hauling business.

Did he really make money though? How many loads did he have to move to gross that figure? What was the net profit after expenses? In a industry with 100% annual turnover many remain skeptical.

Define "nice equipment".

I do see a lot of advertisements that say "You'll make this much in this amout of time..." But there are also those fine lines and a bunch of hoops (on fire) that you have to do or work like crazy to even make close to that much. Not to mention it make take a year or longer to get to that point. Sounds like one of those "too good to be true" kinda deals.

As far as having a nice truck, some driver out there take great care of their equipment. Spend a lot of time and money when they have it to make their truck look nice. My truck wouldnt look too bad if we took the time to keep everything polished and washed all the time with a few accessories. Dont have the money or time do it. Too busy trying to make that dollar. As far as I'm concerned, if it passes DOT and does what its supposed to do, I really dont care what it looks like. Not trying to impress anyone out there.

Actually, you need to ask Dave. See his above post where he referenced "running around in show trucks" . I substituted "show trucks" for "nice trucks".

My idea of a nice truck is one that looks the way it did when it was new and can pass a DOT inspection, if you spend more on paint and accessories than you did for the truck, then it’s probably a show truck.

I don’t know if I can take on anymore responsibility, I’m sort of swamped right now putting a periscope in my truck so I can make my low rider seat work, then I’m hoping to find enough time to machine a C-15 engine block out of 6061 T6 aluminum and get anodized and assembled before Monday.😂

The exact same thing happens in the flatbed market, we are currently bleeding the last few drops from a overcrowded flatbed market

7075 T6 is a much better option, hope I'm not to late.

Good Morning Paul,

'I'm doing a few thing getting ready to leave on a run, and will be on the road by noon. If I forget, I'll be driving most of the afternoon so give me a call if I forget.
