Hey whats up tankers. I am Andre I own a tanker outfit in the Texas market for 3 years now. I have realized i dont know anyone who's in this sector of trucking that i can go too or even share knowledge with. Things like where to buy used pumps or who's selling some off market trailers or equipment and what are some good trust worty brokers/ customers to work with. I cant even find a solid community of tankers so here is my shot at it creating this form put us in one place.

What up y'all! We have a small Liquid Tanker operation here in the DFW. Was with JB Hunt for about 8 years, then branched off with a couple of owners. To say this Industry is a roller coaster is an understament for sure, ha!

We're based out of here, but our guys run nationwide. We're at 4 drivers, trucks, tankers right now. Thinking we'll stay at this size till we establish more lanes. These guys are hauling something different every week while we try and find them work. We've onboarded with some great customers, but trying to have the guys in the right spot at the right time to cover something can be challenging. We found most of our guys in the oil field, so that has been a HUGE blessing in the sense that they are very experienced with these tanks, pumps, hoses, etc.....Can't just throw any warm body in a truck in this industry.

Thats so funny man i'm over here thinking and doing the same thing. I have 3 drivers right now and bascally don't want to move any futher because of this Lane issue which honestly at this size I'm thinking is probably best. Its no point in getting a set lane. I mean as soon as he gets out to said location they will end up waiting or the next load which may never be. Hey man we should link up.

Stett is a good broker, the company I was leased on to did business with them quite a bit until they got cheap on some loads.

That's exactly what I did too. Finding anyone to give a small company a shot is more difficult than anyone thinks, it's not like the freight market. When I was going out on my own I couldn't get direct customers to give me the time of day. Luckily I have a great relationship with the some of the customers I deliver to, so they gave me the work through them instead of the shipper.

Any Tankers in the Texas Market?

Replied on Wed, Mar 29, 2023 at 08:16 AM CST

I agree with the lack of (and need for) a forum for bulk liquids. I'm in the food grade space, but I'm an office/logistics person. I've had luck just calling any company I could find that had "bulk liquids". However, I'd also like a space for information sharing. I'm often asked fittings questions, or tank specific questions that I would just have no idea about and it would be nice to have a forum for sharing this type of information, leads, general info, etc.

Ha, man I have filled out more carrier packets than I can count, and hitting refresh over and over on load boards is probably the lowest point I've reached over the past year of doing this. I honestly have no idea how I've managed to keep them moving, and even now, am scrambling to find work for next week. It's tough, cause I know the need is there, and our guys do great work. Just trying to find those consistant lanes is an emotional roller coaster at times.

I dont know anyone that will allow you to run under there authority and pick loads with tankers im just assuming because of the risk with it. But i will say this the rates are cheap but if your bills/ over head is low check out Schneider Bulk. when your leased on they let you pick your own freight you can pretty much do wht you want to do.

I dont think i have lol this hard in a long time i feel your pain on this one. so one broker is really consistant out here thats for sure. well here is another one that i have never had much luck with honestly and they will send a million emails of loads is KAG loads get hooked up with them. you might not get the load but at least you can follow the market. thats what i do.

Hey fellow tank carriers and drivers, This is a much needed forum to allow us to connect for a more unified front for the small guys; the mega carriers don’t want in business. I been in the chemical industry for 15 years and have work in various capacities from company driver, brokering agent, fleet owner of 8 chemical trucks, and recently my own authority. I have a current project going on and looking for carriers to work with I need an additional 4-6 trucks with. I pay every a net 7days, so carriers can access cash. The run is 110 miles and pays $875 each and anticipate a driver doing 2 and possibly a preload each day. Loads 7 days a week and is super easy work with a consistent 10,500 to $13k/week. Im looking for help ASAP, so if anyone is interested, give me a shout @ (832)205-1877.

We are a broker out of Southeast Texas, in Buna Texas. We are only 9 months old with our MC and DOT number however together we have over 30 years in the truclking busniness. We do prefer to work with the smaller carriers because they have the skin in the game and tend to take care of busniness better just our preference. My husband has been in the trucking for over 30 years and is in the chemical tanker side now. If you would like shoot Kim or I an email [email protected].

I have several owner operators leased to me most own their own trailer. I haul agri-chemicals. This is the slowest start to season I have ever seen. Everyone I talk with is slow, even the liquid corn haulers. Hopefully when it picks up it will run, but I don't know. The reason for this post I have been waiting on 6 new trailers for darn near 2 years, they are coming off the line now. In my search for trailers I have found a small company that wants to buy tankers. If anyone has too many perhaps I can help introduce you. They have no interest in anything but tankers. I can be found [email protected] Paul Midgett, Bessie Liquids

I am currently on a 260 mile round-trip (leave empty, return loaded) run that pays 579.44 linehaul (I get 65% of that) plus the typical fuel surcharge (I get 100%). I drop the loaded trailer. (An hourly driver shuttles it to the customer.) Normally I make two runs a day (today just one) which takes around 13 hours total. The trailers usually don't need washing (same product each time) and I never see the charge when they do.

This winds up being $2.25 per mile to QC for just the linehaul, so I don't see why $3.00 would be outrageous, even if that includes fuel (no surcharge). And wouldn't there perhaps be another load near the destination. I saw someone post recently elsewhere that the minimum should be $5 plus fuel plus washout. Even if the driver had to deadhead all the way back, that would still be more per mile ($2.50) than what I'm seeing on a day-to-day basis. Granted, I get to sleep in my own bed each night, which is nice, but running up and down the same strip of road sure gets dull after a while.

Appreciate the feedback Eric. I think the biggest difference that I can gather, is your lane appears to be dedicated (contracted). The lanes I was referring too, were purely spot market freight, as opposed to Contracted. There is no guaranteed backhaul upon delivery, and essentially having to go on the hunt again after a washout. These rates seem to be hovering around the $5 to $6 range these days. Cost per mile is also a larger factor as smaller fleets tend to be company owned, therefore cost is having to take account for multiple units, rather than just 1 truck.

Seems like you got a good thing going on over there my friend, glad you found something that is working for you sir.

Hi All,

We own a small liquid bulk transport company in the Houston area. Looking to branch out a little and secure more freight. I have been researching load boards and find that a lot of them don't have many liquid bulk loads to offer and definitely not enough to warrant the membership fees. I have been reading through the convo thread and will definitely look at some of the ones suggested. Just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions?

I've had luck just calling any company I could find that had "bulk liquids". However, I'd also like a space for information sharing. I'm often asked fittings questions, or tank specific questions that I would just have no idea about and it would be nice to have a forum for sharing this type of information, leads, general info, etc. "

I've hauled canola oil for you guys a few months ago from the rail cart to your facilities. We're still in the area looking for more work. Please email [email protected] or call 832-995-6665.

You have any owner operator positions open. I also have my own tanker?

Be prepared to be told no a lot. Work the phone and email, Google chemical companies and cold call. Most importantly, don't haul for cheap rates.

You could try PAR Trucking out of Stickney, IL. I know they were running loads down south and they are the most honest people I've ever dealt with 708-924-6163
