Is 25 or 30 cents per bushel for 150 miles fair?

Good day all

over the past weeks I talked with one guy about the lane and it was around 150 miles he requested my rate per bushel and I get my target rate for .80 cent, he said that I am really overestimated as he had a lot of options for from .25 to 30 cents for 150 miles. Now I have question does that rate cover truckers' expenses and earn some money working with lanes like that?

Are there any truckers who work for this rate?

He's correct, I wouldn't, someone else would bounce too haul away and ask for more

Yes there, currently, are. And no, it is not a fair rate. 80c is even a little low, but should probably be around the rate to run circles on that. I think it should be closer to a dollar/bu, personally; bc we don't believe in making pennies and would prefer to make quarters for quality work. Tell them that when they want quality work by a company that will still be in business a year down the road, to then give you a call. Those guys will go broke, and then you can be there to haul it. No 25 even 30 too cheap I’d go for 65 but nothing cheaper

25-30c is losing money that pathetic if someone is doing it for that! 80c was a fair bid in my opinion, wouldn't do it any cheaper.

If it was 150 miles one way but doing round trips back and forth. I'd be at 1.10 for corn. Wheat and beans would be 1.17, barley 96 cents, and 64 cents for oats. Depending on the test weights is what determines those prices as well.

80 cents is fair. At 25-30 cents a bushel on a 300 mile round trip you are literally paying to haul their grain unless they have a load of lime or fertilizer coming back that pays by the ton.

Muddy water here. 150 miles round trip? Or 300 round trip? 150 miles one way?

Wish I could get them rates. KS and surrounding states are low . 20 to . 30 on most grains. Occasionaly some loads pay more .

I don't haul it unless I have the time and it's going where I need to go.

Problem is mostly that a 250 dollar load is worthless . You would need to be able to run at least 6 a day to come out on top.

Fuel is too high right now for them rates. That is about all it pays around here for most grain. Sometimes 50 cents. But not in shit runs.

Short runs should be way higher per mile than long runs.

If short run has no back haul or you can't make a few of them a day then you are working all day for 100 or so bucks.

Ask how many loads are able to do in 1 day.
