Hopper bottom question

I'm really debating on buying a trailer but I want to know is it hard to establish more contacts. We're out of South Carolina and I don't know too many people to reach out to. Is the a standard rate that should be charge when haul bulk loads or is most of paid by the ton.I also don't want to jump into the industry with just one contact. I'd really appreciate if some one can lend me a hand in the right direction. I rather ask then under bid and become part of the problem the trucking industry already ha/

I would bid it based off of what could potentially get you home. Call companies in the area i.e. scoular, adm, cargill, etc, or even use bulkloads and see who, in the destination area, has loads heading back your way; and how consistently they have those loads. If there are aren't consistent loads in that area, then it is really important to bid accordingly. Being stuck in an area is awful, and no one should ever truck for pennies just to get out of an area. As for who to, specifically, call I don't think I'd be much help... There's no clear-cut way to do anything, unfortunately. I would bid it based off of what could potentially get you home. Call companies in the area i.e. scoular, adm, cargill, etc, or even use bulkloads and see who, in the destination area, has loads heading back your way; and how consistently they have those loads. If there are aren't consistent loads in that area, then it is really important to bid accordingly. Being stuck in an area is awful, and no one should ever truck for pennies just to get out of an area. As for who to, specifically, call I don't think I'd be much help...

I just started this hopper thing myself

MOSTLY JUST drive OTR in the winter

To me its damn paper work and and understanding factoring and all that if you know about that stuff

I think theres plenty of loads if patient ,I just came SC lol to Iowa lucked out at the last mnute

Now up here trying to string a couple together its kinda of timing thing I think

But I'm no wiz at for sure lol

Hopper is paid by ton of flat rate but I would try to stay obove the $3.50/mi mark otr but everyone's expenses and situation is different.
