Looking into hauling 34 ammonium nitrate for a customer in hoppers. Is $5million insurance required to get hazmat certification? Is it worth trying?

You would only need $1 million liability for UN 1942 hazard class 5.1 Ammonium Nitrate. Call your insurance company talk it over with them, and get a quote, is all you can really do.

But if it’s hazard class 9 UN 2071, ammonium nitrate fertilizer containing less than 13% ammonium nitrate, you may get away with a simple pollution policy from the insurance company. I used to haul class 9, and it was around $700 for the class 9 pollution policy. Again, talk to your insurance company.
