Or if there is any good companies to start with. Been hauling livestock for 7 years now. Just wanting a change. Any help would be appreciated.

They used to have loads going every which direction. Just depends on where you wanted to go. They did have a lot of Illinois loads but I didn't want to go there at the time. They were paying good at the time.

I have only ever brokered a few loads off them, but Mercer is a decent flatbed company to lease onto from what I've heard. If you're gonna go into TX, FL, or New England, make your money going in, because the rates suck on stuff coming out of there. I dont haul lumber because it doesnt pay anything. Mostly only haul steel. If you've never sercured on a flatbed before PLEASE dont be a cowboy and shortcut on securement. It only takes few more minutes to chain it right, but boy is it expensive to pick a load up off the road, and you lose every second you ever "saved" on every load you undersecured when you dump a load ont he ground. Dont say it wont happen to you because it can and it will with that attitude. The excuse Im only going 25 miles with this load is no reason to shortcut on securement. You dont know when some idiot is gonna pull out in front of you. If you're hauling steel, dont trust straps. They look pretty but steel always wins when its working against cloth.
