Considering getting my own authority in Texas

I am currently leased to a bulk hauling company pulling a end dump trailer. I won't say the name of the company in this post but they are everywhere. I'm thinking about getting my own authority not because I'm unhappy with my current company. I'm considering it so I can work closer to home. I live in Dallas, Tx but I dont really want or need to be a local driver but I would like to just run Texas or Texas and surrounding states due to recent changes in my family to be home on the weekends. Do you think this is a good or bad idea? Thanks for reading my post.

Whatever you decide, don't pay some 3rd party company to do the authority paperwork for you, or your IRP, or set up your IFTA, UCR, etc. You can do everything yourself for free.
