Trailers...End Dumps or Hoppers

Those of you who have both hoppers and dumps can probably answer this question. Which one will gross more at the end of the month, over the road? I know there are certin times of the year that one may be better than the other, or maybe not, but as a general rule, which one pays the most? I know the dump will average bout 2 tons less than the hopper but will haul things that the hopper will not. We have freight for both and want to add a bulk trailer to our reefers, just need to figure out which one.

Hopper by a long shot, we run all 48 and stay loaded with very little DH

end dump has just as much work to if more so and what can be put on hopper no ine times out of ten can go on an end dump at least on East coast anyway west coast all wants walking floors or belts most of the time occasionally right now u can find some loads back to East coast for hopper but not often off load board

I ran a dump trailer for three years through a reputable broker my average per mile before the broker took their 12% was $2.46 a mile but I can scale 26 tons with my dump trailer I started brokering myself with the dump trailer and was still around $2.50 a mile for all miles I got sick of never getting home because I live out west and so I went and bought a brand new timpte Hopper trailer my empty weight is now 25,000 pounds so I can scale 27.5 tons so far I am 2 weeks into this brand new Hopper I can go anywhere I want there's plenty of loads available easy to get back home anytime I want. my mileage rate hasn't changed it is still around $2.50 a mile for all miles...if you're looking for a nice dump trailer I have one for sale.

I call BS on west coast hopper loads Donald. Our hopper division runs nothing but east west and we don't sit waiting on reloads. We get the same rate on west coast if not more as the east. Stay off of load board most loads are double if not triple brokered, find yourself dedicated dispatch

If u run south of Pa west of Appalachia mountain kinda more med west hopper be your best bet...
Base hopper rates on 25 tons...dont pull cheap stuff and figure hopper washout b around $45 in those areas... prent off a folder for hopper truck from bulkloads showing all hopper washouts I made really good money with hopper plus if u leave doors open most of times u dont have to wash out unless place requires washout receipt...saves u money and mileage and time on elogs....if u out in California area or east north east zone go with end dump base rates at 22 tons.

Hey Brian, what kind of truck and trailer set-up do you have that can scale 26 tons with a dump? I did good to get 24 tons on mine.

I'm thinking about buying a hopper. I've heard some say that they have work year round, and some say that they don't. I've never pulled a hopper before, but very interested. Is it worth getting into? I like to be home often. Just need to know so I'll know what to do come January. Thanks
