Same old song and dance!

Man am I getting sick of the same old statement! "Fuel prices are down so you should be able to run for less" to this I say BS! This equates to the same scenario of "Fuel is lower so the cost of goods recieved is lower, therefore the factory workers should be able to work for less!" In what universe does the fuel cost become the only driving factor in rates? Does the price of tires, brakes, equipment, license, insurance, road use tax, drivers wages and many other items involved in operating a truck go down? Hell no! So then why would anyone think that we can operate for a fraction of what we were recieving just a month or so earlier?

Is the problem on the broker side? Possibly? They still have to bid freight to make themselves useful to the company, but at some point the carriers with rolling stock need to take a stand and let these loads sit!

I guess I need a vacation because I am about to go postal if I hear this BS anymore!

Don’t forget the ‘It pays for your fuel…’ response. Ask dispatch/broker this, ‘Are you going to come to work tomorrow if your boss says he’s only going to pay enough to put gas in your car to get to the office?’

Everyone expects us to haul for lower rates when fuel goes down, when the price of beans/corn etc goes down, but when those prices go up our rates don’t follow suit.

Brokers are still taking their same % or $/ton off the top regardless, so THEY are still making the same money they’ve always made. Its always us that takes it in the shorts.

Everyone always talks big about making a stand and taking charge, but its always next month, this summer, this fall, blah blah blah. One commenter earlier even stated “When this mess is over we'll be in the position to do so.” That’s the problem, it’s the ‘we’ll do something later’ mentality. Do something about it now. Everyone wants their stuff hauled, so set the rates or don’t haul it.

Trucks are needed, trucks have the control, unfortunately most drivers are too stupid to know it and to apathetic do anything about it. You want to take back control of the industry, now is the time to do it. Truckers have the equipment to move the product, yet they still let the shipper/broker/dispatcher set the terms and rates (there are exceptions). Pathetic.

Everyone knows its true, and the number of dislikes this will get just proves the point that know one wants to hear the truth. Rant over

The decrease in fuel prices in minimal and at best only equates to about $50 on a 500 mile run. Goes to show how little those scumbags know about average operating expenses. Sounds like you need to stop dealing with brokers. Problem solved.

The dislikes are from the brokers that read these threads but never respond. They don't like the truth. I bet most carriers or drivers here have no way to make a living when this shitshow comes to a halt. We are rapidly approaching the end of this system. The warning signs are everywhere. Anyone no ready for the ensuing storm is going to be in for a world of hurt. Get out while you can!

If you guys remember I spoke of this scenario months ago,we now have protests in several cities, but no real show of solidarity. Now would be the perfect time to act,as there are shortages already created by the Coronavirus panic, why should we not take a page from the political playbook and "not let a crisis go to waste"if we were to join together now and shut things down, its gauranteed to get notice more than any other time in history. It woulndt take months or even weeks,I would venture to say it could only be a matter of days,if there were a genuine consorted effort by all of us.

You are absolutely right, the media has put trucking and supply chains in the spot light, now is the perfect time for everyone to hijack the bus, by jumping up and down and drawing attention to the real problem, that’s what those guys in Texas got right last week.

You should work on your reading comprehension skills. I essentially said to plan for the collapse with another source of income. I bet you're still out there right now hauling brokered freight or cheap Farmer Joe subsidized grain.

I agree but these chumps in here are still pulling. Just look at how many Starvin' Marvins reply to every single broker post like it's the last run on Earth. I hope this plandemic utterly crushes every one of them. The herd must be thinned. Over capacity is the number one reason thngs are the way they are.

Well, if you MUST know I have a service truck that makes good coin and I have a bit of passive real estate income. So technically no I haven't left the industry. Something about climbing into a conventional tractor is ingrained in me. However, the writing is on the wall where the industry (and the country in general is heading). My point was to have an exit strategy together but by all means keep getting screwed by your parasitic broker butt buddies and your free market competitors who will run you into the ground with their subpar rates you can't compete with. How's your Spanish?

David now you are resorting to vulgar language and Insinuating violence , am sure that you are a way better man than that. Two things I do wonder about though is why I can’t find your DOT number listed on Safer , could be my Inexperience , and how you manage to have so much time to be on this forum. Maybe you could just share your DOT # as it is public record anyway. I know mine is quite easy to find and I am no big sticker. Or have any thing to be ashamed of . My excuse for reading and occasionally comment on this forum is old age and don’t want to work. Hope we can keep posts on the forum on the positive side . And that Jared keeps letting me have a free ride to read his Webb site. As if I was trucking I would be hauling for local co-ops or only one broker , H & S from Salina, Ks , so if I read the load board , trucking news or the forum it’s mostly for entertainment anyway. Have a good day David and will continue to look for some good tips from your side.

I'm calm, sir. I you seriously think I'm anything then you are outside yourself. I promise you if we were face to face I'd have zero problems speaking my mind. Go back and READ this whole thread. I'm the one getting attacked here. I'm merely defending myself. Stop making things personal and/or throwing idle threats and this goes away. People need to act their age and not their shoe size. Every time I repsond another one of you takes it another notch higher.

I understand plently of people are offended by things I've said about the industry and brokers but I never singled anyone like the many of you have with me AND my opinions are my own. Get over it. All the keyboard warrior stuff is a joke. My address is public. I'm certain ya'll know where to find it. I stand by my words, you come to me and we'll settle it if you're feeling like playing Barney Baddass. Barking threats on the internet is pretty weak anyway. We all know none of you have it in you to come by so knock it off. Ed is the only here talking with some sense.

Yes krouse, I've responded to nearly all your posts. I have been egging you on and I shouldn't be doing that. You're throwing the victim card out, so now I'm starting to feel guilty. Nobody has threatened you, I want to make that clear. I threatened you with a snickers and a hug. It was meant to be humorous. My comment about you not trash talking face to face, which i stand by, wasn't a threat either, its common that people are way less aggressive with their words when they are face to face. I think you know that nobody is going to travel however many thousand miles to your door step to discuss anything or throw a punch. Nobody has the time, and nobody cares that much. I'll do my best to quit arguing with you. AGAIN, I didn't threaten.

So I am just going to put this out there. I have read through this thread and there are some really good statements, ideas and thoughts in the thread! I propose that these forums, just like the bible, curran, texts, and ANY written statement is open to interpretation! You can not dissern the writers emotion, context or reasoning for a statement just by reading it.

When I wrote this initial post, it was to bring light to the fact that big brokers gobble up freight in everyone's back yard and then cut the cream off and try to get you to haul for nothing! I have been in this business since 1987, first as a driver and for the past 10 years in this office as a dispatcher and I can tell you for sure that i DID NOT get into this business for my health! We are all in it for the money!

Duane, you are a broker who I respect. You have to see the impact of the parisite brokers?! I have hauled for you and would haul for you again in a heartbeat if the right loads appeared! So I ask why are we at each others throats? Why don't we ALL, carriers and respectable brokers just say no to this practice? We sit here and I see you guys go at each other like a pack of rabid dogs! Use that anger and channel it into working for a common goal! We need to work together and not divide! These companies are well funded and backed by lots of money! Most of us are in a good place because of our business practices and good sense BUT are no match for these big brokers!

All I can say is, let's please stay civil to each other and take the time to consider what someone is saying before posting things you may regret later!

Thanks

Well when I was on the road, I would stop at the Bar B in Black River Falls Wi a lot. It was my favorite trucks stop until Flying hook took over. At that time they had the counter and booths. The truck stop truckers sat at the counter bragging about how much trucking they did while the real truckers came in, sat in a booth, kept to theirselves, ate and got back on the road! The Bar B was my stop for a good meal on my way east and then back west. Other than that it was fuel stop gut bombs and keep that left door closed! That's what trucking is all about! I have 3.5 million verifiable miles in just over 20 years. Never once sat at the counter.

Ok,this pandemic is all but over, dot in Colorado is getting back at it with a vengeance. So i guess my question is to everyone on here is this. You hauled their freight usually at a rate no one would of done because we were helping the Nation. Now there were promises made that were help us we will help you, well have you noticed that not 1 person is to concerned what happens to that hero as some of you were gloating you were being called, we are just being over looked again.. Now is the time before that last load is hauled over this farce, to actually shut down or at least take the lions share of of the money.. If we don't then it will be a slow death . If I don't see any of you again out on the road I hope you went down fighting, and i wish you all luck and prosperity...
