Government data shows the average truck driver makes $42,000 a year, and the ELD limits them to 70 hours a week, so let’s put this into perspective and say the driver works 50 weeks out of the year $42,000 divided by 3500 = $12 bucks a hour, and half of that will go for living expenses on the road. If you were to double that, it’s only $24 bucks a hour, to work in a federally regulated industry that requires a federal license. Well the DOT inspector that enforces those regulations is licensed by the government also, makes that same money however he is working half as many hours to do it, and is home with his family having supper every night. And shippers think their the one’s getting hosed?
