Loading your own trucks

How many use a 3rd party to keep you loaded all the way around? Do any of you find it easier to get your own freight in the bulk biz or go thru someone else? We haul mostly reefers form east to west coast and in that biz you have to have 25 trucks before anyone will talk to you about hauling direct. I was just wondering if bulk is a little easier to get or should we just go thru another broker? We only have 3 hoppers.

Yes all of you make good points. I guess it comes down to how that you want to operate your business. I guess sometimes we don't put as high of a value on brokers until we really realize what they do. I'm not saying they should get 20 and 30% and more like some do but should be worth 8 to 10 providing that they keep us busy with good rates. I have one truck and it is not good to rely on one shipper. So I fill in with broker or other shipper loads. There is a place for honest brokers. I don't like giving away ten percent all of the time.
