Who is going to start paying up for all these washouts? It seems that more and more companies are requiring washouts before loading. We even have some companies requiring that we washout before loading grain after hauling fertilizer. We have not had any problems with contaminated loads, but have been told that numerous companies have had. What ever happened to the day when a driver knew how to grab a broom after each load and clean a trailer out? What are some of you going to do to offset the costs of these washouts, not to mention the bounce miles that are involved when there isn't a close washout?

Have you seen the list Butterball at Sherwin has that requires a washout before loading a load for them? It's pretty much anything that isn't grain or a feed ingredient.
Then I heard that a certain carrier just told his driver's to put beans or meal on the previous load even if they hauled something else.

I pull tankers and we almost always wash out between products unless approved, usually cost between $150.00 to $350.00 depending on product and location, always included estimated price included in ratecon rate+fuel+ tankwash

Find a water hose and create an invoice. There is no such thing as a “certified “ washout. Most fertilizer or chemical companies have onsite washout. Use it.

I doubt if that if you are pulling a reefer that sometimes you load 10 to 15 loads a week. Big difference between what you do and what we do!

Your right I don't load/unload that many times a week, I have pulled hopper a lot and we had to washout after hauling fertilizer, animal by products or before loading any feed products no matter what previous load was.
