I'm from the South Georgia area looking into pulling a hopper. Any comments or questions on the pros and cons of pulling a hopper?

Depends on where you plan to travel... Local or Long Haul... there are plenty loads out of the Ga. area... I live in Louisiana and Georiga is a bad area for me pesonally because I can't always find anything back my way...

Rates in our area, Minnesota, are way too low. Fertilizer we were hauling for $25/ton just last spring are now paying $16/ton. Can't make a living here pulling grain hopper.

In my opinion no. The hopper guys have the rates run down way too low to make a living. I have mine parked. Only use it at harvest.

Jermy Pitts , Just like all kind of trailers there are good and bad rates and times , But if you are willing to go out and stay out for a couple weeks at a time there is money in the hoppers , We Here at Northwest Transportation Service have logistics office in 6 States here in the western part of the USA , from the ND and Sd to AZ ,MT and ID and the home office in WA . We are looking for O/O to work with our team and become part of the family here with NWTS ,
PS we have loads out ot Moss Point a lof of the time , If you like please call 701-532-1424 and we can talk about what we have to offer the O/O as far as pay time and fuel program

Some guys seem to make it work...... Where we live we can make around $3,000 gross dollars a week. With our vans we can make 4 to 4500 dollars a week on reginal hauls. That is not saying there isn't a sweetheat deal out there but I have my last Hopper for sale now.

make sure your hopper has enough capacity. There is a huge difference between grain hoppers and ingredient hoppers. perfect size would be at least 43 ft 102 wide and 84 in walls minimum. I like my local runs in pa . you need to work with good connections as everyone seems to be rate choppers

so there is some hope in pulling a hopper????? ok, so my next question is... How many bushels of corn,soybeans etc could be hauled in a hopper (4276 or 84102) legally behind a w900?

Rates aren't bad if your willing to work your not going to make anything running local to many people fighting over a small amount of freight supply and demand if you have a100 drivers trying to run local and there's only enough freight to support 10 drivers shippers can pay what they want shouldn't be to hard to figure
