A Soldier and a Trucker

07/04/2017

I have been both the soldier and now the trucker. I have been told by our government both times that I would give up my Constitutional rights for the greater good of the American people. I understood this as a soldier, but do not understand this as a citizen trucker.

As a soldier I would give up my freedoms so that others may have theirs. I understood the discipline that was necessary in the Army to accomplish the mission and to maintain order. I understood from the very beginning what was required of me to defend and protect the freedoms of my fellow citizens. I understood that I would give up my rights to defend the Constitution of the United States in order for other to have theirs. This we will defend, was our motto and defend we did.

Once I served this great nation of ours, I thought I would now enjoy the freedoms that we had fought so hard to defend. Imagine my surprise when I became a trucker that the government stated once again that I would have to give up freedoms in order to serve the greater good of our country. I was agreeable to most in the name of the general safety of the population of our nation. Then one day the government decided that was not enough and they wanted to take my property rights away as well.

I bought and paid for my company's authority. I bought and paid for my company's equipment. I don't remember ever agreeing to give the government authorization to take my property rights away for the good of the public without compensation for such. Yet here they are forcing my company and me as the owner of that company to not only do something that I disagree with, but are forcing me to pay for such. This is a violation of the fifth amendment of the Constitution of the United States.

Here I am wondering what is going on? Is our government trying to take away citizens' rights one by one, until they can restructure this nation to be controlled by those that have money alone? Have we become a nation that no longer values the individual citizens rights? Does our government truly believe that they can take our rights just because they can? I guess it is ok, because it is just we truckers right? If they take our property rights then what is to stop them from taking yours?

The government will gladly accept my property taxes, income taxes, fuel taxes, road use taxes, along with other fees and taxes as well. They have acknowledged me as the owner of my property when it comes to paying them their money, but seemed to fail in acknowledging my ownership when it comes to freedom of choice. They want to dictate to me and others as to how to run our business and act like we no longer have any rights to freely choose to run our business in accordance with the laws without their interference. Why did I even agree to get into business in the first place? It looks like the American dream, our lawmakers, and our justice system has been sold to the highest bidder. Are we now a nation that only the wealthy or the lucky can live the American dream? It seems that no matter which party is in charge that they both seem to play we citizens against one another.

Is this what our founding fathers intended? Did they intend upon we citizens not owning and controlling our property? Did they intend upon we citizens to pay taxes to a government that does not listen to its citizens? Do we truly have independence and freedom upon this independence day?

Well put. Nothing will ever change until we all stand together and stop the nonsense. Unfortunately you won't get the drivers to stick together on the b.s. rules and regulations our wonder government has put on this industry. The other problem is all these cut throat, rate cutting companies. Which a hole other topic on whats wrong with the trucking industry. We all should be working together to get the rates up to where they should be. I personally think it's more than time for a major shut down and bring this government to it's knees.

Ive been around trucking for a long time..only one person was able to get truckers to stick together..his name was jimmy hoffa...you could have a million truckers in a group..and all agree to shut it down on a certain date and time..that day rolls around and out of that million truckers who agreed ..there would be 5 maybe 10 that would actually shut it down.. the rest would make every excuse in the book why they cant..and the shippers..the government..know that dirty little fact..and they take an advantange of that dirty little fact every day..and here is another example of it with tthe eld.
