Humpty dumty sat on the wall, Humpty dumty had a big fall, all the king's horses and all the king's men, could'nt put humpty Dumpty together again........ Hymmm. The supply chain sat on the wall, Then the ELD caused it to fall, all of the FMCSA, and ATA's men, could'nt get the Driver's back into those trucks again. Bahahaha.

You have to wonder if we somehow make it to April, what it's going to look like when the DOT begins it's hard enforcement of the ELD mandate. Right now most people in my area have them installed, but are not using them, they are still running paper, and the carrier's tell the driver to try and bullshit the officer if they get checked roadside, and say that it just quit working. So far no one seems to be checking Logs. At the same time everyone is buying up all of the pre 2000 trucks, and rebuilding them. You do a search on Truckpaper.com, and it's pretty slim pickings for anything pre 2000. More evidence that this mandate is not working for most folks.

ELD is forcing guys out.

Since mandate I have had at least one truck per week inspected in either New Mexico or Texas. My guys are quiting over this and we have a decent CSA score for you haters. Getting huge tickets for out of washer fluid or one guy forgot to put mileage in the box. Several have left cause they are just having to much trouble trying to make it work and can make a decent living staying home....till the wife makes em nuts and they rethink. I'm only operating 4 of my trucks at this time.

We have multiple trucks abandoned at shop cause guys can't deal with the ( not mine) ticking clock in their face. These guys are complaining that the ELD clock is to rigid and makes them make dangerous decisions in traffic or some are fed up with being an hour from home and having to shut down for 10. Some are fed up with parking trouble. It's worse for those of us running irregular route.

Some have opted to be parts counter idiots. Some went to local KW dealer. $20 to start, free training, plus benefits, no experience required.

These aren't the guys that are likely to return to the industry in my hiring area. These are older people that if they get comfortable will finish work career outside of trucking.

We're bleeding drivers like crazy when the industry has a documented shortage of drivers. No one has figured out how to get the young people to embrace this stupid way of life. Now there are groups wanting to bring drivers from out of the country? How does this make sense? More people that can't speak English... great deal.

The ATA and those that see the ELD as the golden goose because they're to to damn lazy to put in an honest day are really messing up the industry. We're all going to get a huge increase in rates until we all can't afford to buy anything. Already am not affording a new pick up. Be a cold day in hell when I pay $50000 for one.

Arizona has a tough reputation for picking on truckers, I have several neighbors who won't go there becuase of it, so it don't surprise me when you say that you guys are getting checked down your way. But up here the DOT isn't checking anyone, even if they have been involved in a accident (Just happened to a relative last week)...... So I have to wonder if they are under orders not to? And now we are noticing the smaller grocery stores seem to be running out of stuff. You now see a lot of former drivers working construction jobs, and partying their brains out at the bar every night.... The possibility of a DWI doesn't even concern them, so you can tell that they are serious when they say that they will never go back to driving truck again.

April? I know that’s when the hard enforcement will start but I think the better date to watch is June. How much you wanna bet the focus of the 72 hr blitz will be HOS and ELD’s. Popping hoods looking for that engine build date on the older trucks and gliders.
