Another driver shortage

KARE 11 news out of the twin cities just reported that there is a shortage of school bus drivers this fall, to drive all of the kiddies to school. Here we have a group of folks who don't require ELDs, and are not affected by HOS. Yet it appears that folks in this group are leaving in droves, and flipping their middle finger at government as they head for the door. Perhaps those 18 year olds can solve that problem too? Once they figure out how to survive on a couple hours of pay per day.

If all it takes is added money to haul any load including children than it’s not a Driver shortage. I dont think there is anything that needs a driver that can be done and immidiately. Most positions and not just drivers could easily double in pay and not be out of line for the cost of living today. One thing I’ve learned about getting help is if you can’t get help than itbdoesnt pay enough or you are to hard to work for. Ive sometimes had to change what I haul to pay more but it seems there is always something to do if you don’t fear change. If you think something isn’t priced high enough than see how easy it is to get an independent contractor or competitor to do it for what you charge. Maybe the school needs to just get independent contractors. Just my thoughts on a supposed drivers shortage. Since all the freight is getting moved by simply raising the freight rates there is no driver shortage. Actually for all the dot requirements from book testing, drug testing, Driver records etc paying qualified drivers $100-125k a year does not seem out of line since thats standard in the oil field. A lot of over the road guys are out 3 weeks and home one week and the Work is the same.
